Where? Casa Saltshaker, Palermo
When? 22.03.2013

Do you know the evenings, when you have some friends over, you share some good food on a large table, some wine that fits the food and finishing off the evening with a sweet desert and some coffee.

Well, this is what we had, but different. The concept is called secred door restaurants, basically restaurants, which happens to be at someones home. For Friday, Casa Saltshaker was our choice of the evening. In the middle of Buenos Aires, located in the beautiful area of Palermo our host Dan was welcoming us in his apartment.

Besides us, 7 people joined the experience to eat, talk and enjoy the food at the big table.

The menu was not typical Argentinian, but rather french/european cuisine with an oriental touch split into 5 courses. Each course was accompanied with a matching wine.

Overall, we enjoyed the evening very much. The people were very friendly and entertaining, the food was really good. Also to have a peek into someones apartment was something special to us. The only thing we would have appreciated is to have more time in between the courses, as the next plate just arrived once the other was finished.

Recommendable, interesting and outside the normal :-)

Where? Gran Parilla del Plata_BA_San Telmo

After a long long search for a "little take away salad" on Tuesday, we voted for proper food the day after. As always in BA, the choice was big...but as we went for a Tango Melonga later on (see blog by Karina in the main blog), we decided on a very nice looking, smaller restaurant around the corner on which we past by several times already.
We arrived at 8pm and didn`t see anyone inside...closed? Noooooooo...we were about to discuss the alternatives, the door clicked and we were welcomed as the first guests of the evening. The former butchery not only convinced with its charm (old picture of the former butcher shop, nice wine bottles all over and the meat hanging from the sealing) but also with its food. Starting off with really nice bread, Karina took a sausage and some salad, I took a nicely raunchy bife de chorizo and Maura desired the "small ribs" :-)

As you can imagine, the restaurant was full after some minutes and even some people were queuing as we left (no extraordinary thing as we were told). Thats for sure a place to go back again!

Where: Buenos Aires, San Telmo, Don Julio

They say, its one of the nicest places to meet for meat, in short, me(a)t. Located in the beautiful area of Palermo in Buenos Aires, there is the one restaurant called Don Julio. The tables nicely decorated with authentic leather sheets, the restaurant is filled with both locals and tourists. Hundreds of wine bottles (empty ones unfortunately) with notes of the guests remember of past dinners at the place.Regarding the food, I don't want and need to describe it...why? I simply let the pictures speak for themselves :-) :

Where? San Antonio de Areco
